My Next Race

Boston's Run to Remember 5-miler. It's on Sunday, March 12 through the streets of Boston. The run is a tribute to fallen law enforcement officers. Proceeds go to Kids at Risk Programs throughout the city of Boston.

So now I need to train for it. I can run the distance. But race it? Hmm.

I may approach it like I did my first 5K. Run it, get my time, and compete against that time on the next 5 mile race. Only problem is that there aren't many 5 mile races around.

There's a really cool video driving through the course on this page.

When we get back to the Seaport World Trade Center, there will be live music, beer and a whole expo to walk through and hopefully gather up running goodies.

It's been said that during this run, you can see the parts of Boston you'll never see whizzing by in a car. I'm really looking forward to that.

I sort of wish I had a running buddy to go with, but I know that once I am out there on the course, I need to be alone. I don't like the whole feeling of - am I holding the other person back? Should I slow down so we can keep running together? etc. Still, it would be nice to do fartleks with someone who knows what they're doing.

For this reason, I may look into joining a running club in the spring. I know at a certain point, my 5k and 5 mile runs are going to burn out, and I will be left asking, "OK, what ELSE is there?". A running club with members who've run and raced all their lives will certainly have some ideas for me.

As for this race, pray for sun and low wind!
